Lau Treehouse

The Lau Treehouse is a sculptural open-air wildlife viewing platform designed for the Yale School of the Environment. It is situated at the heart of the Yale Myers Forest, a 7,000-acre woodland and forest training camp in Northeastern Connecticut.
Status: Completed
The treehouse is built around a 200 year-old sugar maple, making contact only at six strategic points, where specially engineered Treehouse Attachment Bolts (TABs) are used to mitigate tissue wounding and allow continued tree growth.
The custom aluminum-frame design and locally sourced sassafras boards were selected for natural resiliency and minimal ecological impact.
The treehouse offers views of the surrounding forest from its three open-frame platforms, which rise 4m above the forest floor.
