Who We Are
Archipelago is an architecture, design, and research studio based in London, Berlin, and Washington D.C.
We work across scales and project types with clients who seek joyful designs and share a commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship.
Our name, Archipelago, reflects our ethos of interconnectedness: we bring together ideas and experts from a range of disciplines in a unified, integrated approach to design.
Archipelago’s three founding partners met at Yale University and now work in collaboration with local specialists around the world to deliver projects that are rooted in place, culture, and the natural environment.
Our Values
Building is a privilege.
We are committed to exercising careful stewardship of the financial, material, and land resources from which projects are created. We seek the unique opportunities in every collaboration to create places that are smart, joyful, and inspiring.
We believe in a holistic, life-cycle approach to sustainability that accounts for architecture’s ecological, social, and economic impacts alongside more traditional metrics of energy and material use. Our aspiration is to create buildings and places that are high-performing and well-loved across generations.
How We Work
Our approach to design is fundamentally collaborative.
We listen carefully to the needs and desires of our clients, partner with knowledgeable local experts, and develop the best and most appropriate design ideas without ego. Architects and designers by training, our methods also rely on iteration: testing a wide range of ideas and advancing our designs through critical evaluation, problem-solving, and feedback.
Due to the collaborative and international nature of our projects, we value the importance of strong communication. Together with our clients, we establish clear objectives and measurable outcomes to manage projects effectively.
