Lolldaiga Valley Masterplan
Laikipia, Kenya
The Lolldaiga Valley Initiative was launched in 2021 to provide a buffer zone for the wider Lolldaiga Hills landscape in central Kenya. The goal of the project is to demonstrate that a small and sensitively-designed nature housing initiative can coexist with and support a wider strategy of habitat restoration, conservation and community development.
Status: In Progress
The project is the culmination of a 15-year journey to convert a disused livestock ranch into an innovative ecological buffer zone.
All buildings and infrastructure within Lolldaiga Valley will be limited to less than 0.5% of the total land area and will be designed to blend into the landscape. Archipelago helped to craft a set of legally binding Design Conditions which set out specific environmental and aesthetic requirements for all construction.
We are now working with Lolldaiga Valley to develop site-wide habitat restoration plans, which are focused on groundwater recharge and the reseeding of native plants in order to support the remarkable biodiversity of this important ecological landscape.
